It's impossible to ignore how legendary Twinkies are. The snack cakes have been gracing the shelves of supermarkets, gas stations, convenience stores, and the like for close to a century, delighting generations of families with their distinct golden sponge and sweet, fluffy filling. They've appeared in movies and songs, and despite a brief disappearance from stores in 2012, there are now an estimated 400 million Twinkies being produced annually.

We all love Twinkies, so it comes as no surprise that whenever a new Twinkies item is announced, the internet scrambles to find out more details. For weeks, fans have been speculating about the release of an all-new version of the iconic dessert. And now, it looks like the product is finally landing in stores.

Hostess Is Launching a New Twinkies Candy Bar

For the first time ever, Twinkies is coming to stores in the form of a candy bar. The new treat features a smooth candy shell packed with a rich, creamy filling that we can only guess tastes just like the popular snack cake.

While a release date has yet to be announced, a shopper shared on Reddit that they recently stumbled upon the new item at Family Dollar, adding that "they’re far better than they have any right to be. Genuinely good. If you like Twinkies, it’s a must buy."

Over on Instagram, another early taster revealed, "I got to try the Twinkies candy and love them!!"

As of now, the candy has only been spotted at Family Dollar, though they are listed on the Blair Candy website—however you can't add them to the cart just yet.

This is, surprisingly, not the first Twinkies candy creation. In 2022, Hostess launched a holiday-inspired Twinkies candy cane, a sunny burst of yellow amidst the boxes of classic red-and-white peppermint sticks. "It’s confusing without the spongy-cake texture and iconic cream filling," someone on Instagram observed about the candy canes.

It's a fair observation—and one that you could also make with the new candy bar. So much of the Twinkie experience is, undeniably, tied to the squishy sponge cake and creamy center. Without those components, we're left with...plain vanilla flavor? It's hard to say. If you give the new Twinkies candy a try, let us know you think—we're all ears.
